Looking back at me across the room was a sea of knowledge, ideas, curiosity and potential. Education professionals from across the country had gathered at AWS HQ to unpick entrenched challenges in the UK education system, with one shared goal… Bringing Equity to All Curriculum Areas.”
And what a day it was! Thank you to everyone who made the journey to London to join in this important discussion. Thank you also to each of our wonderful speakers who enriched all of our thinking about what curriculum and assessment should, could and might look like as we move into an even more technologically advanced age with integrated AI features and functionality.
Here’s my key learning from the day:

- When given time and space to think around the subject of assessment and curriculum, we’ve realised we already have the antidote to some of the entrenched issues and reductive practices out there. We just need to use the agency we have to make a strategic shift.

- Education leaders are becoming increasingly aware of the Assessment Literacy required in the system to meaningfully and sustainably improve the experiences of pupils and staff

- Advancements in technology and the gradual integration of AI will help us, so long as we ourselves are educated well enough to not only use it, but shape it to meet our needs

- It’s time we consider what we value, deliver that through our rich curricula, and use multi-modal assessment approaches to understand if pupils have learnt it.

- If we truly value all subject areas, including the Arts, D&T, PE, Music, Drama, then now is the time to refine how we bridge the gap between what has been taught and what has been learned, using authentic assessment methodologies.
